The aim of this unit is to begin equipping children with basic Drama skills and make initial steps to developing their confidence so they are able to perform to each other.

It uses an assortment of imaginative stimuli designed to engage, promote creativity and curiosity. There are several opportunities for the children to create, perform and devise in a variety of ways.

What are the expected outcomes?
Every child will …

Be introduced to a variety of Drama skills including improvisation, mime, and tableau. They will be able to make choices that will help them to express simple characters and interact in basic stories. They will participate in a variety of ways: individually, paired, small group and whole class.

Most children will …

Build on their own experience of Drama or imagination to develop skills. To communicate character by understanding facial expression and be able to add to basic stories. Adapt and refine the way they use particular skills to enhance their portrayal/participation. They will participate in a variety of ways: individually, paired, small group and whole class.

Some children will …

Participate in skills activities with confidence and self awareness. Use their understanding of facial expression and emotions to portray convincing characters and help lead stories. Independently, edit and refine their participation to increase the successful delivery of the task. Be able to comment reflectively on their work and that of others. They will participate in a variety of ways: individually, paired, small group and whole class.
